2001 Porsche Boxster. In for a complete detail today and it needs a ton of paint work because the clear coat is trashed. I detailed a Boxster S a few weeks ago and this is noticeably slower. It’s no slouch, but you can definitely feel that it’s missing the punch and extra horsepower of the S.

I have one of those, a non S; but my open top cruiser before that was a miata so compared to that, the base boxster is stupid fast

I suppose I could go take a dump and the car might just happen to disappear when I’m not looking haha

Haha oh ya, compared to my Outback this thing is a rocketship.

Is it possible to correct failing clear coat without a respray ? I think I caught it early.

They’re a riot to drive, especially the S version. If you’re over 6 feet tall though, forget it haha I’m 6 foot 2 and it’s a squeeze in there.

If really depends on what shape the clear coat is in. Luckily German cars have thick paint/clear coats so they buff out well with some work. This car just has a shit ton of clear coat scratches. If the clear coat is totally faded then there’s nothing I could do to save it.

If you’re anywhere near St. Louis, I’d love to do it!

It’s like there are tiny little white dots in certain places.

Great to see a 986 coming in for a detail - so many of them are in such sad shape these days and its a shame. I think people take better care of the S’s. There was an S in great shape with the drilled rotors and red calipers parked on my street the other day - I had forgotten how cool these were when they aren’t beat to crap.

I’m 5'7, so I can fit into pretty much anything that isn’t a kei car. The early 2.5 versions, which I know are even slower than this one, are getting close to “why not” money.

Possibly chips? I detailed my dad’s Audi on Saturday and noticed the same thing, they turned out to be chips.

On the drivers door ? It looks like water residue.

Hmm, I’m not sure. Clay bar it, then use a cutting compound to try to get into the clear coat. After that wax and seal. If the clear coat is on the way out, you can slow down the deterioration by doing that.
